Comparative Analysis Essay

This assignment is an individual assignment whereby weare required to write 4 reaction papers based on 4 different architectural texts over the course of 8 weeks. At the end of the course, we are required to submit a comparative analysis essay between our Design Studio site and Newbury Street, Boston. The sites that I have done a comparison on is Jalan Tun HS Lee and Newbury Street.

The objectives of the assignment is
1. To provide critical perspectives on key issues within the contemporary discourse of architecture, through integration of case studies and theoretical studies.
2. To enhance the understanding of the complexity of architecture and the ability to undertake independent research.

The learning outcomes for the 6 of us in the team are
1. Being able to analyse architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architectural theories.
2. Analyse and critique relationship between architecture and its social, cultural and intellectual context.
3. Produce, orally and in writing, a critical interpretation of architecture and urbanism in relevance to theories within the contemporary discourse of architecture.

Case Study

This is a group assignment whereby we are to analyse in depth the on the idea of "Life Between Buildings" as written by Jan Gehl. The case study that we were given is Newbury Street in Boston.
