Project 1:
Famous People, Familiar Face: Diagrammatic Abstraction

We were introduced to various Modern Masters of Architecture which included Frank Gehry, Alvar Aalto, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Robert Venturi, Mies van der Rohe, Tadao Ando, Adolf Loos and Walter Gropius. Later, we were assigned to a task -we were to explore the elements that made up a significant building of the famous architect that we had chosen. In our case, my group decided to pick the Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier. We extracted the elements of Villa Savoye through means of diagramming and in conceptual models.

We got to gain knowledge on various facets regarding the Le Corbusier's work such as his Five Points of Architecture, Domino House, use of reinforced concrete, spatial organisation and many more.

This project has helped me learn a lot about the coming of the International Style in architecture, and I have also learnt aplenty about the various Modern Masters which influenced architecture until today. It was also a rich and exciting method to study about the compositions of the building, and definitely effective in helping students understand better.

Project 2A:
Introduction to Site Analysis + Picnic Pavilion @ Port Dickson

This was a fun and new experience for us. It marks the first site analysis that we had to carry out; for 3 days and 2 nights at Port Dickson. The reason for the site visit was to find a place suitable to carry out the first part of our second project, to build a picnic pavilion for our client. My groupmate and I have chosen Emma Stone, a celebrity actress cum broadway performer.

In conclusion, as a performer it involves a lot of movement, dedication, tough work, etc. hence the result is a pavilion that suits her needs and requirements. Other than that, various other factors were taken into consideration such as the site context, what she likes and hates, spatial planning, form, materiality and many more.

I have leant various new information such as aesthetics and practicality, connecting the building to the site context and as stated above. I have also started to think more realistically in my designs after completing this project.

Project 2B: Beach Pavillion  @ Port Dickson

We used the same site for this project and had the choice of changing locations on the given site.

Emma's Beach Paillun @ Port Dickson. This is where she will come to for a weekend retreat, a place away from her busy and hectic life.

It is meant to cater and to accomodate to her aims in her career life.

I got to learn various forms and spaces in which to fit her requirements in this project. Apart from that, the relation to the site context, developing a strong design concept and diagramming the composition of the building were a few of the things that were given attention to in this project.
