Project 1: Precedent Study
This is where we learn about the Culture and History of Architecture.
This subject is an introduction to the chronological survey of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors that influenced the development of Western Architecture from early civilization to enlightenment of the modern Architecture.
Project 1(Part 1): Online Group Forum
In this project we were required to form into groups of 5 as this project would be held in groups.
My groupmates and I were then given a building by our lecturer to further analyze on. The building that was given to us was Basilica Di San Lorenzo, in Florence, built in the Renaissance era.
Each of us were then required to choose a case to focus on. I have chosen building method and materials in this case.
After sketching out the graphics needed to explain the cases, we were to scan the sketches/drawings and upload them onto TiMes where we had to answer our respective questions on the online forum.
The objective of this project is to expand our knowledge and architectural vocabulary by analysing the existing buildings with their immediate architectural style. Through this project we are introduced to basic architectural theory through a consideration of intentions, concepts, patterns, disciplines, architectural language and contextual relationships. We were also required to examine architecture history through a chronological survey, looking at the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors which have influenced architectural design.
Project 1(Part 2): Analysis Presentation Board
In this project we were to continue on our research and come out with our individual presentation board.
In this study we were also asked to focus on a certain topic that we have chosen and present it on our A2 board.
As a whole, I enjoyed doing this project. It made me understand the significance of the building during the Renaissance architecture period. I am also able to exemplify the sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally and classify the sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally. This project truly helps me understand the history during the Renaissance period better.
Project 1(Part 3): Balsa Wood Model
Balsa wood sheets are easily damaged, fragile to handle, and we had to take extra precaution when handling the balsa sheets. Other than it breaks and bends easily, Balsa wood is also not easy to shape, into a curve especially. We tried and experimented the balsa wood as a group. We tried to plan our usage properly so that there will not be any wastage.
After a few sleepless nights, we finally made our model! We tried to bring out the essence of our building, which is the nave and the ceiling.
We really enjoyed building this model. As a summary, we had to present our model to our lecturer and explain how it relates to our case study. Overall it was a very fun project to do.
